The benefits elections you make during the annual Open Enrollment period may not be changed unless you experience a permitted election change or qualifying life event, as defined by the IRS. Qualifying life events include marriage, divorce or legal separation, welcoming a child, unexpected loss of coverage for you or a dependent, etc.
Any change to your benefit elections must be on account of and consistent with the underlying change in status. For example, if you are married and covering your spouse under the plan and your spouse obtains a new job with his or her own coverage, it would be a consistent benefit election change to drop coverage under the plan and be covered under your spouse's plan. In that event, you will be asked to certify you will be added to your spouse's plan.
To change benefit elections during the year, complete the necessary steps within the required timeline. Crew members who fail to follow these steps must wait until the next annual Open Enrollment period to make any benefit election changes.
